Question: What is KAWS UNIVERSE?
KAWS UNIVERSE is a UT collection created by world-renowned artist and first-ever UNIQLO Artist in Residence, KAWS. The collection includes apparel and accessories for all ages, including bag charms offered for the first time in a collaboration with KAWS.*.
To build this collection, KAWS focused on simple, universally recognizable symbols, designed to feel instantly familiar and emotionally accessible to everyone around the world, regardless of their background, location or age.

Question: Why does KAWS use motifs like the moon and the sun?
These characters represent optimism, warmth, and human connection — responding to everyday reality with hopeful imagery and reminding everyone that all people are part of a global community, and that “we are better together” despite our differences. This is the ethos of the KAWS UNIVERSE collection.

Question: What is the concept behind each design?
Each design shows KAWS’ iconic COMPANION character and the new KAWS Universe characters interacting with or supporting each other in some way. This element of interaction serves to demonstrate how KAWS has created these new characters to exist in his world with existing well-known characters like COMPANION.

Question: Is KAWS involved in designing this collection?
Yes, KAWS was directly involved in designing and creating the concept of all new KAWS Universe characters, how they interact with his existing signature COMPANION character and how they all appear within the collection.
