What is UNIQLO’S commitment to reduce single-use plastics?

UNIQLO decided to reduce single-use plastic in its stores starting in 2019. We have discontinued plastic shopping bags and now use environmentally-friendly bags made from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper or recycled paper. We now charge 10 cents per paper bag and donate 5 cents to charity:water, a non-profit organization funding clean water projects in developing countries around the world. Since starting this partnership in 2019, we have served 61,087 People, funded 290 projects, supported many countries (Cambodia, Madagascar, Malawi, Uganda, Bangladesh, and India), and donated a total of $1,123,000. We are also working to reduce the amount of single-use plastic in product packaging. We have begun verification testing and are striving to switch from plastic packaging to paper. Our next challenge includes plastic hangers.
